GERMANY-The compounding specialist Albis Plastic is now member of Save Food, a global initiative with the aim to reduce food waste and loss. In this context this concept attempts to achieve, above all, better packaging and optimized logistics. The initiative is supported by organisations such as the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP).
Albis Plastic named its oxygen absorber Shelfplus O2 as example for keeping food fresh without increasing the weight of the packaging. “This oxygen absorber is capable of keeping foodstuffs such as baby food or beverages such as fruit juices and wine fresh for a considerably longer period of time”, explained Roland Schultz, Director Marketing Packaging. The worldwide market for active packaging solutions is anticipated to grow an average of 5% during the period from 2014 to 2019 according to Smithers Pira.
